About Doug:

At Highland High School in Bakersfield, Doug won a CIF Central Section Championship, was 2nd team All-League in football, and set a school record in the 220-yard dash — so he was the school’s Outstanding Senior Athlete. He coached at Cuesta College and then at Atascadero High School. Beginning in 1975 and continuing through the past season, Doug marked his 42nd year of officiating high school wrestling. He has officiated 35 CIF Southern Section Divisional Tournaments and 21 CIF-SS Masters Tournaments, with three appearances in the CIF State Championship Tournament. He also served as an evaluator of officials at the State Tournament for five years. Doug has also officiated California Junior College events for 38 years starting in 1979, and this season was his 35th year of officiating NCAA Division 1 wrestling.

Perrin has officiated 15 Junior College Regional Championship Tournaments and three California Junior College State Championships. For 31 years, Doug has been Instructional Chair and Assigner for the Los Padres Wrestling Officials Association. He served several terms as the President of the Southern California College Wrestling Officials Association, and he also served two years as President of the Southern California Wrestling Officials Association, with six more years on that group’s executive board of directors. He is currently the Instructional Chair of the SCCWOA.

Perrin started the Arroyo Grande Youth Wrestling Club in 1980, and he administered the program for 33 years, benefitting over 1,000 young athletes. In 1995, Doug was recipient of the Ken Talley Award for Outstanding Work with Youth in S. San Luis Obispo County. In 2007, Perrin was a recipient of the CIF-SS Champion for Character Award. In 2014, he received the Lifetime Service Award from the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, and in 2015 he received the first annual Golden Whistle Award from the CIF Southern Section.

When the International Olympic Committee recommended the elimination of wrestling for the Olympics in 2013, Doug was one on many Californians who contributed to a video made to protect the event and promote the sport. Doug is currently a member of the National Wrestling Officials Association, the Inter-collegiate Wrestling Officials Association, and the California Wrestling Officials Association.
