About Drew:

Drew grew up in Paradise, (Butte County) California, and he began wrestling in his freshman year at Paradise High School where he was one of the school’s first four-year varsity letter winners. Williams was a three-time CIF North Section Champion, and a runner-up in the fourth year. He attended Yuba College from 1964-66, wrestling on their first team in 1966. After transferring to Chico State College, he wrestled in the Wildcat lineup from 1967-69 while earning a B.A. Degree in 1969 and a teaching credential in 1970.

In 1970, Drew was Head Wrestling Coach at Las Plumas High School in Oroville while student teaching. His first teaching job was at Brawley High School from 1970-72, where he taught English and coached the freshman wrestling team to the Desert Valley League title with a 13-0-1 record in 1972. From 1972-1997, Williams taught English and Physical Education at Monache High School in Porterville while serving as the Head Wrestling Coach. His teams won 18 East Yosemite League championships with an EYL record of 161-13-1 (92% wins). His teams won the Yosemite Division titles in 1978, 1981 and 1994. They won the CIF Central Section title in 1978, and they were runners-up four times. His career varsity team record was 401-76-4 (83% wins).

Drew coached 64 CIF State Championships Qualifiers, including 15 State Placers: six in 2nd, two in 4th, four in 5th, and three in 6th place. He coached 19 CIF Central Section Champions, including two-time Olympian Tim Vanni.

Williams organized and directed six wrestling summer tours through the Western U.S. for Monache Wrestlers, logging about 15,000 miles. He was selected as a CIF Central Section All-Star Coach for the team that travelled to West Germany to wrestle in 1979. After retiring from coaching, Williams was an Assistant Principal at Monache and Granite Hills High Schools. During his 10 years in administration, Drew served as Chair for the Central Section Wrestling Advisory Committee and represented the section on the State Wrestling Advisory Committee.
