About Terry:

A CIF-Southern Section Champion in 1971 and 1972, Terry was a CIF-SS Masters Meet runner-up in 1972. He enjoyed being a member of the California-Japan Cultural Exchange Team in 1971. At Mt. San Antonio College, Martin was a California Junior College runner-up and All-American in 1975. He was an AAU Junior National Freestyle Champion that year, too. Later at the University of Oklahoma, Terry placed 3rd in the Big 8 Conference and was an NCAA Championships Qualifier. Terry started coaching at Heritage High School in Oklahoma in 1978-79, where he had two State Champions and the State Tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler.

He was Head Coach at West Covina HS from 1983-86, then at Walnut High School in 1996, and finally at Ayala HS from 1996-2015. He coached at the Oklahoma City Athletic, Club during his year there, and later at the West Covina Youth Wrestling Club. His high school teams have earned 14 League Championships and included six CIF State Placers and 24 Southern Section Champions. His teams won a CIF-SS Division Championship in 2002 and were runners-up in 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005. They were also CIF-SS Dual Meet runners-up in 1997 and in 2001. Martin also served as an Assistant Wrestling Coach or Interim Head Wrestling Coach at Mt. San Antonio College from 1979-1992.

During those years, he coached six State Champions and more than 30 California Junior College All-Americans. He has served on the CIF-SS Wrestling Advisory Committee and Sub Committee, plus as the CIF-SS Masters Assistant Tournament Director. He was instrumental in moving the CIF-SS Masters Meet to the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, the first time that the event has been held off of a school campus. Terry has served as a CIF Section Tournament Director for both Dual and Individual Meets. He has also been Director of the Penn State Wrestling Camp at Cal Poly Pomona, the Iowa State Wrestling Camps there, and of the Cael Sanderson Wrestling Camp at Ayala HS for three years. Martin was given the 25-Year Service Award from the National Wrestling Coaches Association in 2014, and he was inducted into the Mt. SAC Athletic Hall of Fame in 1993.
