About Donny:
After winning a CIF Division Championship and placing 4th in the CIF State Championships for West Torrance High School, Donny was a two-time South Coast Conference Champion at 126 pounds, a two-time California Community College Southern Regional Champion, and a two-time Junior College All-American at El Camino Community College in Torrance from 1986-88. Garriott was then a two-time Far Western Conference Champion at California State University-Chico where he placed 5th at 134 pounds in the NCAA Division 2 Championships, earning him NCAA All-American recognition. After college, Donny was a USA Wrestling Freestyle All-American after placing in the Open Nationals. He was a runner-up in the 1996 Olympic Trials Western Region. Donny has been coaching wrestling since he began his career as head coach at North Torrance High School where he served from 1991-2008.
He compiled a dual record of 280-76 there while winning 12 League Championships. His teams were CIF Southern Section Divisional Champions in 2003, 2004 and 2008, placing 2nd in 2001, 2006. His teams also won CIF-SS Dual Meet Championships in 2003 and 2004, runners-up in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. His North Torrance teams included 5 National High School Placers, 6 CIF State Placers. While coaching on the high school level, Donny also served as an assistant coach for the Golden West College wrestling team in Huntington Beach from 1995-98, where the team won a South Coast Conference Championship.
He became the head coach of wrestling at Cerritos College in 2006, a position he still holds. His dual match record there is 129-40, and his team won the CA CC Championship in 2014. They have also finished 2nd in California five times and won the Southern California Regional Championship six times. They won the CA CC Dual Championship in 2016, and the Falcons have won six Conference Championships while Donny has coached 15 individual CA CC State Champions, 50 All-Americans and 27 Southern California Regional Champs. Garriott is a USA Wrestling Bronze Level Coach and a member of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
He has served as President of the California Community College Wrestling Coaches Association.He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature at Cal State Dominguez Hills in 1994 and earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education. He is a Learning Disabilities Specialist.
